Just picked one up used. Sounds decent, plays nicely but the pots are dirty -- anybody ever swapped electronics out on one of these?

Played one of these and I really enjoyed it. Nice bass!

My friend has a 5 string fretted version of that bass. It's a very nice bass and I'm really impressed with the workmanship. He got it a couple of years ago when GC was blowing them out. I believe it's made by Cort and it's just an ESP with a different headstock shape and maybe an electronics change. They are an excellent deal.

Yes, apparently GC sold them exclusively, though I believe MF and other on-line shops eventually carried them also. Ocean has no more of this type in their current line-up, but they are nearly identical to Cort Artisan models (whose shape I prefer to this Ocean's). IIRC, list was $1100 or so, GC prices were ~$750 when I first saw one in late 2008. I bought this one used in early '09 off the 'Bay.

I'm very impressed with the woods...flame maple, wenge, and other nice hardwoods. The bridge is quite solid and the hardware is licensed Hipshot design.

Best prices I've ever seen on neck-thru basses with good build quality.

Might try some tuner cleaner spray onj the dirty pots first. Available from radio shack. Sometimes that fixes the problem permanent, sometimes just temporary. Nice score, havent seen any nice ocean basses of late thru guitarcenter website. Theyre just making run of the mill like ocean stuff now, nothing special and certainly not as nice looking as the models yours was part of when new.
