Hi all, hope all is well. I'm looking into what the title describes. I've had and currently have quite a few octave pedals, but I don't have an all in one solution. I'm looking for an octave pedal that has an independent footswitchable sub octave. Octave up +1 isn't that important to me.

As far as controls go, something like:
For -1:
Dry volume
Wet volume
Filter/tone

For -2:
Wet Volume

I know 3Leaf has the Octabvre Mk.3 and the big Octabvre Mk.2. Walrus has the Luminary, although the controls aren't exactly right for me. The Foxrox Octron Mk.2 looks good but doesn't go -2.

This is what I've used, with * for what I currently have:
EBS Octabass
OC-2
JohnK Ampeg Sub Blaster
Aguilar Octamizer
DOD Meatbox RI
3Leaf Octabvre Mini*
Broughton Subsonic*
MXR VBO*
Mutron Octavider+*
MXR Sub Machine* (fuzz with suboctave control [not footswitch] and octave up footswitch)

My budget $200ish or lower. Thank you all!

3Leaf doesn’t go -2 either. You want the -2 to be solo’d or you want to be able to just turn it on and off in conjunction with -1? Either way I haven’t seen any octaver that has this particular function. Mostly because -2 is not really useful.

Thanks for your note. Got it, I thought in the 3Leaf it was independent from the -1. I guess in conjunction then? The way I've doing it now is using the Mini for the -1 and the VBO for -2, and I'm hoping to find an all in one pedal.

The sub switch on the 3Leaf is still -1. Meaning one octave below. It just kills the dry signal and gives you an independant volume control. I still don’t quite understand why you’d want two octaves below your signal. Or to solo it even. It’s quite rumbly and not very articulate.

You might be able to find a second-hand Electro-Harmonix POG2 for ~$200 ...maybe ...and you could easily create two user presets, one without the 16vb voice and one with it. Then just use the Preset Selector footswitch to step between them.

A Source Audio C4 can do both together. If you want to use them independent of each other, you'll have to use some external control (either midi or an expression pedal) though or dial it in manually. It also might be a bit overkill.

Or if you don't want to use midi or the bulky expression pedal, you can use the small external tap tempo switch. Or even better, get a latching version from Saturn Works so you don't need to keep your foot on the pedal. Works a treat.

Both will be out OPs budget though but deffo worth saving for if possible.

I'm pretty sure the MXR Poly Blue Octave will do this with an expression pedal. I know it has the Sub -1 and Sub -2. With the expression pedal you set a preset at heel down and another at toe down, then switch between them.

It also accepts a tap tempo pedal in the expression input but I think that only triggers fuzz or modulation, not presets.

EDIT found it in action:

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all your replies. Few notes below and answers to your questions:

- Maybe it's a nomenclature thing but I always translated sub to mean -2 (i.e., sub octave, literally "below the octave below") and not to mean drykill -1.
- I really enjoy -2 sounds, especially for hip-hop playing or synth-adjacent music (RnB, dance, funk, etc.)
- Righto, the OC-2 and VBO both have -2 settings, not surprising since the latter is a clone of the former.
- Thank you all for the C4 suggestion with midi or external tap, HX, POG, ZOIA, Poly Blue, and others. I had no idea the Poly Blue had that functionality so def checking it out.
- Octron4 looks perfect! Thank you @Smurf-o-Deth !

I'm leaning Octron4 or MXR Poly Blue since I already have an expression pedal, so will check demos and see how I roll. Would also need to sell some stuff to afford the Octron, but things are looking up right now!

I'll still be checking in to see if other suggestions pop up and will report back once I make a decision.

Yeah, sub is “sub octave” which would translate to “the note an octave below a specified note (the note you play)”. -2 would be sub sub octave.

Interesting that you find -2 to be synthy since -1 is mostly used for that effect (the analog sounding ones, OC2 stuff). I’d find -2 to be more dubby than synthy.

Looks like this might be another option:

Volume controls for clean, +1, -1, -2.

From what I read in the manual, each octave is footswitchable. So if the mode selector is on -1/-2, the Octaver switch turns on the -1 and the Drone switch turns on the -2. I think.
