Double Bass Octaver pedal for double bass?

Haven't tried Octave pedals with my DB, but if you're happy with your pickups... chase different pedal options first.

Also...
a second separate pickup (eg. Bridge mount piezo) just for effects would be another option. A A/B switching pedal could work - select either or both pickups, octaver between the PU and A/B pedal. Also rather complex.

I double EB & DB, worked in music stores and did backline/tech stuff for a while too...

EB: the OC-2 is awesome. My next fave was Agi Octamiser: tone for direct and LPF for -1 Octave. EHX BMS & MXR BOD tie for 3rd place.

Micropog is awesome for synth pedal boards as it tracks so well, but I t needs other pedals to 'gank' up the sound. Slight OD for warmth, touch of chorus to detune the harmonics, touch of delay to broaden/fatten the tone (and hide the latency). Loop this pedal chain thru a Blend pedal to mix with the dry signal...Unbelievably cool sounds. But expensive & PITA to setup/carry.

A Zoom B3 pedal + Micropog partner quite well. Or try B3 alone with Pitchshift at +12 semitones as it tracks pretty well on EB.


Just start with the Agi Oct.... one pedal perfection.

Some of the tricks the slabbers use may help, and some not.

Compression is sometimes used before an octaver to help the octaver get a steady signal. However, a comp can also send your DB into screaming banshee mode, very difficult to tame that kind of feedback.

EQ can be used before the octaver to spike specific frequencies to give the octaver something to latch on to.

Of course, this introduces the tap dance to the DB player, but if you stick everything in a single loop pedal you can turn on all the pedals with one stomp and avoid the two-step shuffle.

I like the EBS OctaBass a lot. I have used it plenty live and on records. It works well with my Realist pickup.
