Double Bass Odd EUB, help with identification.

Hi,

I'm new here, not sure if this is the right place for this.

I have a friend with an old, unique EUB that i thought someone here might be able to identify. We have spent hours googling and looking through forums and sites and come up with not much. There are no markings other that the Kluson tuners. The "body" is a metal pipe that the neck slides into and screws down. The pickup is a big horse-shoe style. The body adjusts up and down on the ring stand. It is 44 inches nut to bridge.

I'm not joking, just curious.

There is a tailpiece that attaches to the bottom of the body.

I was leaning toward homemade too but some of the metal work looks more manufactured. Especially the pickup.

The pickup looks like a very crude copy of Rickenbacker's design.

OK. My apologies for suggesting it.

It's definitely homemade in the sense of cobbled-together parts. And then there's the pickup. As the Sherriff suggests, it looks like a copy of the very very early Rickenbacker design. Can you show us a picture of the back of the pickup?

I would not say its homemade. Salvaged. A 1930's Rick. More than likely the body was damaged and they made due. When funds are tight u do what u can. Kungfusheriff was on the money. Here's a link.
