I haven't contributed much on this site since I showed up, much less introduced myself, so here goes: musically I'm primarily a fretless electric bassist, and I was born in '72. HUGE Kiss fan and all that shite back in the day (and I still think Gene eats most Rock guys' lunch on bass & vox, no matter what a "sellout" he may be). Regarding this album that I'm about to share, I feel blessed to have run across this as a child of that period too, at a yard sale no less. Finally heard McCoy Tyner live at Yoshi's in Oakland around 93-94 with Michael Brecker on sax, and that band BLEW OUT the whole place beyond doubt. (Eventually got to rehearse and also perform on stage with Michael Brecker in college, which I did not see coming back at the Yoshi's performance (and Michael was a million times better to be in a group with than you can possibly know unless you have played with him, in which case you do know). Anyway, saw Tyner's band again later in the 93-94 era in Portland, Maine without Brecker, and McCoy stepped up and hit even harder with the trio! McCoy Tyner is a pianist beyond description, just as Michael Brecker is a saxophonist beyond words. So yeah. This was always the first Christmas album I dug out each year, until I discovered Jacob Miller's Christmas album, and then that became my go-to. If you love jazz and/or McCoy Tyner on piano, then this is your Christmas album. Trust me. This is the 1% but in the good way.
God rest ye merry jazzmen
