I had some time to fool around with this and I came up with a few stain/tinting suggestions that IMHO makes the new ATK1200 look much nicer. Let me know what you think.

Nice job, would be great options/improvement. Perhaps Ibanez will take notice!

Black knobs with abalone tops look very fine on my 750 koa, with its deep, rich wood tones-much better than the stock chrome clunkers. Black knobs go with the black p'ups IMHO, and gives the big 'ol bad boy ATK bridge more individual character when not surrounded by the chrome bits and pieces.

This 1200 is surely a beaut, but doesn't the high end price (except that $700 eBay steal!) take it out of amazing-bang-for-your-buck-bass?

No Sir, the shop had 2 ATK 305s and they were $600, and they also had a ATK 310 for $600, it said right on the back of the headstock. The 310 sounded really warm, I liked it. Not so sure about the price tag though :hmm:

Here's a page from the 2009 Ibanez North America Catalog that shows the ATK300, ATK310 & ATK305 all living in harmony. Some other countries received ATK310s in Mint Green... very sweet color we didn't get.

In general, I like guards and I have this sweet piece of tort to fashion a new one for my Bunker EX
All I have to do is have the nut cut by my luthier and it's ready for a spankin'.
I installed the tuners and neck myself.
I agree that you shouldn't cover up a nice grain....but a clear guards cool too as I'd scratch the hell out of the body slappin'.
Really no right or wrong...just personal preference

Wow... your Bunker EX looks great right now... a tort guard is just icing on top of the flame maple cake:bassist:

Musicians Friend has apparently unearthed some 305's again, and has them on sale for $399. Their last normal selling price was $549.

I read somewhere that 310's were being released to Canadian dealers, and sure enough, Fleet Pro Sound in Ottawa, is offering the Mint Green 310 for $399.97:

There's also a used one on eBay right now, for $270:

Doesn't make six bills seem like a very good deal.

On the other hand, Canadian online dealer Axe Music is generally roughly on par with MF, and they currently show the 310 as a special order item at $566.08.

Buyer beware...

I know it's a goofy thing to do, would it weaken the headstock if I were to sand down the volute on the neck? I love the neck feel, but my thumb hits it like a speed bump when I move down to the first position.

I like the sound of more ATKs in my stable. I'll definitely be stocking up before the rest of the world catches on.

I love the neck feel, but my thumb hits it (the volute) like a speed bump when I move down to the first position.

You should buy a "volute free" 90's ATK if the hump interferes with the thump!

USATK's are also "volute free" with their slim and fast Bunker Tension Free Necks:bassist:

I'm anxiouslty awaiting updates from "Funk Factor" and "bassman28" once they get their "Bunkerized" 4-string beasts up and funkin':D

I've been eyeballing those necks, they look pretty sweet. Rare enough to treasure, obscure enough to be had on the cheap.

Hi guys, I have this USATK4 for a few years now... great bass! So count me in...
Any idea where can I get the PG? and which color was the original?
Thanks
