The Big Baby T is here! :hyper:

First impression is that it sounds much closer tonally to an Acme B2 than an Epi UL112. Just what i was hoping for.

When using the same amp settings (all at 12:00) on a Shuttle 9.0, the Big Baby sounds pleasantly even all across the neck. It's just a little more mid-forward than the B2, while having about as much girth in the bottom. The Epi isn't even in the same ballpark, as I had to boost the lows significantly to get the same tone (at roughly the same volume.)

I imagine for 75% of my gigs the Shuttle 9.0 + BF BB would be more than enough, given that the Epi 112 was what I'd been using.

Hi Barefaced fans! Looking for a little advice.

I'm wanting to (hopefully) replace my Markbass 2x12 with a Barefaced Midget.

I gig in a classic rock and early punk covers band, the drummer hits pretty loud but not mic'd or anything like that. My head is 250W @ 8 ohms but I'd be happy to look at replacing that with something more powerful (suggestions? Needs to fit in the pocket of my gig bag)

I don't go through the PA.

Would this be loud enough? I used to gig with an Ashdown 120W 1x12 combo (same band) which did the job fine (but was heavy as hell) and I've also used 8ohm 2x10's on their own before as well so I'm thinking that it probably will be ok.

Try to forget about the numbers if possible, just tell me about your experiences :)

Had the compact (which is great on it's own) for a while, but the midget is a new addition. Makes the whole rig a lot louder, and I can really hear myself even in bad sounding rooms. I'm getting a clarity I haven't had since using 2 x 210 cabs stacked vertically.... only these cabs weigh so little and take up so little space that they suit my needs a lot better.

doh! The professional word for P.A. is "Sound Reinforcment". This is the wrong thread but, it is expected that you would use the system. That is how the front of house achieves a balanced mix. You are not a "heel". The PA aught to be more than vocals - especially for a rock band. My S12t is "nearly ready" but dispite the Littlemark 800 head, my default setting will still be: "line out to P.A.".

Take it easy, you are assuming the singer owns a full FOH system. A PA does not have to be full range, and if it is owned by a singer it might be just a couple mid/high boxes, good enough to sing thru but definitely not something you'd want to play bass through.

If you're playing smaller venues and you know what you're doing, you'll almost always get a better tone out front with all the bass guitar coming from the bass rig and none through the PA (and that's with a decent PA - with a typical small PA then just forget using it for bass!) Having one sound source results in a more coherent tone out front.

I was waiting for you to say that Alex, and I can understand the the technical reasons for it. Last week I played direct through a PA ONLY. Very Very ugly!
My point was that P.A. should not be condidered an afterthought or a favour that is given to the lucky few. There are advandages to making it integral at all but small gigs. That said, comparing the latest amps and Barefaced cabs with cheap P.A. gear is misleading. The P.A. needs to be a high standard too.

What will you advise when you start making your P.A. cabs?

I get a feeling that a Big Baby and a Compact isn't the best of matches. Felling supported ty the fact that there is a Baby Sub to go with the Big baby.
But then again, I am frequently wrong, and Alex will surely clear this up:)
