Official Bolin NS Design info & registry

What's your serial number And details spectorbasslad?
The files in the first post(I think) have details about the knobs.
Basically : top row- volume, mid freq sweep&level(stacked), blend(magnetic pickups), piezo volume. BTM row - bass & treble (stacked, bass on bottom), piezo tone. Under the back cover there are volume pots for each strings piezo and a bass boost pot.

Just checking to see if anyone on here is willing to trade or sell a 4 string. May consider a 5er. Prefer a green with a single mag and piezo but not a deal breaker. PM me if you are willing to part with one.

As of today you can add:

#0086 - 5 string, fretted, Amber (is that the official colour name?), piezo only (2 knobs), additional ramp from another luthier.

This bass was originally fretted, then defretted a few years ago and then subsequently refretted again last year. Based in UK.

What are your Bolin's details, Peredur?

You would think Fishman would sell the set up to others, but don't know for sure

I picked up another one. It is like a disease. Were the Fishman Bridge and preamp ever available to non manufacturers? I am pretty sure I saw the set up on a Peavey B Quad bass. I would DEARLY love to buy it and install it on another Bass.

Hey all - quick question for you. Can anyone tell me what their experience has been with truss adjustments? Looking a little closer at my truss nut and noticing a less-than-perfect-looking hex shape (some of the metal looks slightly bent/warped) . I can’t remember if it came that way or not (or if it happened back when I adjusted it after getting it), but it definitely leaves me wanting to be extra careful not to strip the nut by accident.

It seems the the hex it takes is 1/8, and even so, not much of the hex actually makes it past the truss nut. Just enough to make the adjustment. Anyone experience something similar?

Mine was 2nd/3rd hand etc. but has the same issue. Looks pretty worn so I'm staying away from it for now.

#153 seems interesting in as much as the neck is centre joined (visible from the rear obviously) or at least have a skunk stripe. My 2 Bolin basses have no visible join; I wonder why JB elected to do it different ways?

Picking mine up tomorrow. Single EMG + piezo, 5-string, fretted, a deep cherry red, and #0153, so potentially one of the last made?

I was also in the market for a 5er acoustic, but I found a PJB Suitcase (2x5, 110W) that makes this Bolin sound like an upright!

Piezos up full, tone rolled right back (as per a previous post here), a tiny bit of the EMG with pretty much flat EQ and just a little dab of the onboard PJB compression.

I'd noticed it, but hadn't thought it unusual until you called it out, @warwickhunt. I wonder if anyone else on this thread has an NS (4 or 5) with this strip down the back of the neck.

@Frostie - can you shed any light on this?

Bolin NS by John Bolin and Ned Steinberger Used | Reverb

The sickness continues, haha. Not an NS bass, but this is the the guitar counterpart to my precise NS5 (green flame satin, natural maple neck, etc.). It's far too unnecessary (and far too expensive!) of a purchase for me to come close to justifying it... but it's hard to not want to have this elusive cousin of my NS5 to complete the collection, haha. Maybe somebody on this thread will snatch it up.

Meanwhile, ahead of some touring work, I'm having trouble justifying bringing my prized NS5 on the road. Looking around for a fiver that checks as many of the same boxes as possible, but is more "replaceable," has inevitably led me to just consider finding a SECOND one of these NS5's and just resort to mentally allowing it to be the "road one". Haha, we'll see
