Very nice, J4! That is one purty finish. I can kind of see the BEM.;)

It's here!!:hyper:

Well, actually it showed up last week, but I finally had time to get some pix uploaded. 'Cause ya know what they say, no pictures, no bass...

Here's the Deluxe 4-94 fretless!!

I took off the flats (I'm pretty sure they're JO flat) that Bass Central shipped on it, and got a new set of DR Sunbeams. Still tweaking the set-up, but it's just wonderful!! Just like the fretted one, she's got Barts on her.

John-
Beauteous, JTE! Congrats.

The only thing better than twin sisters....triplet sisters :D

so i spent a bit on black hardware yesterday...bridge included...should be shipping tomorrow.

i'm actually not sure if i'm going to keep this 55-94 now or not...i've been messing with the barts (55-02) a little more...the 55-94 sings really well and i can get the jazz kind of growl out of it really easily, but i'm still not where i want to be with the growl and edge. it had some DR's on it when it arrived, but they looked a little used and i put some Lakland steels on it that sound a little darker than the DR's. I'm going to have to try some other strings out, too, before i make a final decision on whether to keep this one or not.

i'll see how the DC chi's do when a certain bass arrives tomorrow. :hiding:

I guess it depends on where you are headed or shooting for with the tone. The DR's that were on that bass are quite aggressive. Generally, I prefer nickel strings but was experimenting with some steels which is how the DR's ended up on that one. On my other 55-94, I used D'Addario XL nickels. For me, it is the right balance between brightness, edge and growl. You can also get the Sadowsky Blue nickels in extra long. I like those too.

I did have some Lakland nickel plateds here, but i sent those out with the DJ. I'll have to get a couple packs from GC and try them out. The DR's did sound pretty good...don't get me wrong, i like the way it sounds, but i also want another sound. It would be nice to be able to get everything out of this one, heh.

i'm still experimenting a bunch, which is kinda obvious since i've gone through so many basses in the past 6 months, lol. Now that i have a US Lakland, it might be time to try a lot of different strings instead.

Yes, experimenting is half the fun. That is the reason I was using the DR's. Looking to get a sound totally different than my other 55-94. I have not really used the Lakland steels so I really cannot comment on those. But, if you looking for a little more "everthing". I would try the Extra Long Sadowsky Blue nickels.

thanks for the suggestion...i'll give them a shot.

I can't say enough good things about MTD Nickels. You should be able to test them soon enough. :ninja:

I like them so much that I bought a set of the MTD Stainless for a bass that is inbound...:ninja::ninja:
