hehe...i can barely take pics...if i sell the 55-94, i'll probably be picking up a few things to help out that situation.

i'm gonna get that b/m JO5 from Leo next week to satisfy my J bass craving...i'll still trade the 55-94 for a nice 4 string jazz, but no takers on that one as of yet.

If I had some cash...we'd be talkin'.....

Well, I have a neck hanging on my wall and a box full of parts, so I'm out of service as well.... On a positive note, looks like I'm getting a nicely paying, fairly regular cover gig (in addition to my poorly paying regular original band), so now I can justify another bass to the wifey!

My wife goes down in the basement to check on something and yells up the steps "Doug.....you may want to come down here and you are not going to like it.....one of your basses is on the floor!"


So I run down stairs to find Blondie face down on the floor with the hanger completely out of the wall.......heart is pounding......for amny reasons (one of which is that I have not gotten here insured yet!!!)

I pick her up and give it a total inspection......GOD and the angels must LOVE Laklands because the only damage is that the bottom strap button is knocked in on one side (it COULD have been MUCH worse!) The button seems tight so all should be OK.....she was out of tune (which I expected) but everything seems to be working OK!

I will have to have it re-set up soon but that is OK!!!

well i'm having second thoughts about the JO...i just don't know that i'll be able to find a DJ before too long here and i want to get a 4 string, so it's going to be a specific type, etc. i'm also up for trading the 55-94 for a jazz bass, but no takers yet. i would like to have at least one US Lakland...all these white DJ's and JO's are what have me gunning for one. i'm also going to look for a 4-76 or other MM (single pup) style Lakland because i have been gassing for one of those ever since selling the sterling.

I'm going to put some other things on 'fax and probably keep it fretless. Basically, just doing a conversion to full black hardware. I won't mess with the wiring right now because at this point, i'd actually consider trading it for a unique jazz or something else...it'll have to stay in the LOG family, though, for sure.

you'd have to figure those things are pretty solid...maybe someone was hanging on it, lol. if installed properly, they should show signs of getting loose before they just fall off the wall.

DOUG..... are you telling me that no one evr told you that you have to find a post to screw into. if you just had it screwd into plain drywall, you might want to take the rest of your basses down and figure something else out

well....I DID install a 2 x 10 along the wall (just for this purpose) but I misjudged the height of the ceiling....so the top screws on (what I thought were all of them) are in the board but the bottom ones are not...I used wall anchors (capable of holding at least 30 lbs) for the bottom ones so all seemed to be "kosher".....

For some reason, the top of this one did not hit the board (I noticed this and moved all of the others up a hair before screwing them in) so I used an anchor on both top and bottom screws on this particular hanger....thought I was home free...

looks like the screw slid out of the anchor (odd) and that ripped the bottom one out when it fell..

maybe I will put a piece of stained wood across the entire wall (anchored to the board at least at the top) in SEVERAL places but I do not have the time right now....

I "pulled" on all of the others and they seem pretty stable so I think I am OK for the time being (ln knees praying!!!)

I ahd to buy two different types because they did not have enough of any one kind....but Like I said in my post above, it looks like the screw slid out....the hanger did not fail....

I tried to call you soon after it happened but you did not answer and no v-mail picked up...odd.....maybe you were "out of range" (the new )

So I go to the (not so helpful) GC and pick up a set of chromes to try (based on everyones ravings)....

I did not listen to Jedi's advice and buy "super longs" and just bought the "extra longs" (as that was all they had and I did not want to wait to order them).....they have to be top-loaded (not a BIG deal).....BUT the wrapping thread is in the nut for all of the strings.....and the B string is hitting he nut right where it starts to taper....we'll see if this is an issue or not....I heard a few "warnings" about this in the past....

Anyways - tried them out....there is some buzzing which I cannot seem to get rid of without rising the saddles too high....and I am a wimp when it comes to adjusting the truss rod so it will have to go into Lakland for a set up (ONCE I decide which strings I am going to keep).....I figured this would have to happen so I am OK with that...

First impressions: definately "zingier" (is that a word?) than the JO flats that were on it when I got it....although NOT as zingy as the DRs I took off......

nice mwahhh (for flats that is)......

have to have the treble all of the way up, the mids at about 3-o'clock, and the bass rolled of just a smidge to get a sound CLOSE to what I want...but I am 1000% closer to the tone than I was with the JO flats.....

The B and E strings are still rather "thumpy" but that is OK - I really want the "mwah" out of the higher registers anyways....

All in all I am happy.....maybe not 100% yet (when am I ever!???) but closer.....the strings DO feel nice and the action on them is fairly comfortable....

will play them for a few more days and at least once in a complete band setting before I make a decision to change or not...

Glad you like them so far. Chromes need to live on your bass for a while to be just right, so give them time my man!
