I figured if I had a Lakie question, this would be the place to go rather that start a new thread. I am really wanting to get a passive bass again, most likely a jazz style bass.

I am kinda anti-fender right now for a few reasons but I can't afford an American Lakland just yet.

I was looking to get something along these lines:

or maybe a Joe Osbourne.

Are the skylines worth 1000 plus even though they're made overseas?

In one word "YES!"

In many words: In the opinion of many here, the Skyline series is up to par (in some cases and in some instances) superior to the Fender US basses....I have owned many Skylines and now own 3 Skylines and 3 US models.....except for a few details, I could not tell them apart if you did not show me the name on the headstock.

The quality coming from over seas has been great to date.....Lakland makes the Fenders Fender wish they could make....

I had a DJ4 and DJ5 and currently have 2 JOs (1 Skyline and 1 US JO with Chi-sonic pickups)...I love a feel of both.

If you like mother of pearl blocks and a pearly finish go for a DJ but be aware that the body is smaller than they typical J bass - the JO is about the same size as a Fender.....the sound form both is phenominal....and there IS a difference in the sound even though they ahve the same pickups...has to do with pickup position and (maybe) mass.......

This is the place, indeed. And as the owner of three Skylines, I say yes. The DJ is a particularly nice way to go, IMO. It's been called, by a couple TBers far more knowledgeable than me, the best J bass under $2000. And I see that one is nice and light at 8.8 lbs, too. Also, The Perfect Bass usually has a discount going for TBers, so take advantage of that. Finally, I've bought a couple things from TPB myself and they're first-class.

I did not listen to Jedi's advice and buy "super longs" and just bought the "extra longs" (as that was all they had and I did not want to wait to order them).....they have to be top-loaded (not a BIG deal).....BUT the wrapping thread is in the nut for all of the strings.....and the B string is hitting he nut right where it starts to taper....we'll see if this is an issue or not....I heard a few "warnings" about this in the past....

So I run down stairs to find Blondie face down on the floor with the hanger completely out of the wall.......heart is pounding......for amny reasons (one of which is that I have not gotten here insured yet!!!)

I pick her up and give it a total inspection......GOD and the angels must LOVE Laklands because the only damage is that the bottom strap button is knocked in on one side (it COULD have been MUCH worse!) The button seems tight so all should be OK.....she was out of tune (which I expected) but everything seems to be working OK!

I will have to have it re-set up soon but that is OK!!!

Yeow. Sounds like you didn't screw it into a stud. Or is it a joist? I haven't done carpentry in 15 years, so it gets kinda fuzzy...

I'm glad Blondie's okay, though.

EDIT: Okay everyone beat me to it and got answered. I didn't see that last *entire page* of posts before opening my trap...

I actually think if i go the J bass route, I will go with the JO because it has a larger body.
