I've had this OR80 for quite awhile but its 2xEL34 power section ran out of steam way too soon for bass with my louder rock bands so I'd pretty much given up and just used it for guitars. I recently joined a really cool female fronted band that plays at lower volume levels. I've rehearsed at their studio a few times now and had been using the keyboardists spare Ampeg B100R combo with my VT pedal.

At first everyone (including me) thought that setup sounded great but this last practice I decided to bring along my Orange OR80/Mesa Powerhouse 1x15 pairing and give it a shot. The difference was like night and day, the whole room was just filled with a perfect blend of lush warm and fuzzy but still clear and defined bass goodness. I had to push this Orange just to the edge of its clean-ish headroom levels where the tone and feel was so sweet it totally transformed my playing style. I found myself suddenly/effortless playing completely different and much better lines and rhythms that truly resulted in the whole band preforming better. Everyone kept looking over and smiling during the songs and then in-between tunes commenting how great my bass and everything else seemed to suddenly be sounding this practice...

I've been a gigging bassist using several different all-tube amps for quite awhile now and dont usually get all giddy and make posts like this but this Orange amp just flat deserves it.

What's the only thing that tops an SVT? Why, an ORANGE of course!

I picked this up a couple weeks ago off of a fellow TB'er, and I absolutely love it! Looking forward to first gigs with it later this month.

I'm still up in the air as to which cabinet I'm going to primarily use it with. I've had it atop both the Ampeg 810e (which rocks), and my DB212, which is a different kind of smooth thunder. Ultimately, I think I want to try it on an NV610 and see if I can find a happy place.

I'm really happy with the clean tones I'm getting with the Orange head.... Most of the time people talk about it's overdriven sounds.... But it's really big and warm sounding clean too... even loud, as long as I'm using both cabinets.

Count me in! Just got the Terror Bass 500 along with the Orange 115 cab.

I often think that that the bassists who can only get overdriven sounds from Orange amps just aren't playing with the knobs enough. I can get a nice warm and clean sound from my TT and SP212 and OBC115 by just getting the right balance of the EQ knobs and the volume controls.

I own the old Crush 35B, that is more or less the same kind of amp (with 35w, of course) but without a tuner.

It's an excellent bedroom amp and it can be used to rehearse with a band if the drummer isn't too loud. Mine tended to distort easily (nice distortion at first, but it gets uglier and unusable) while rehearsing with the band because I cranked it nearly all the way up.

I guess that the 50w model will have more clean headroom.

By he way, I've used it in PLENTY of gigs (neither big nor important ones). If you're going D.I., there souldn't be any problems.

If I had to buy this amp today, I would get the new 100w model... with that I'm pretty shure that you can practise, rehearse and gig with no problems at all!
