I go between a set of AKG headphones and my cheap computer speakers. When people ask my opinion for sounds, I usually bust out the phones, though I must admit sometimes I just use the comp speakers.

Anyway, the great thing about this stuff is that you are the producer, so just tweak it how you want and all is well ;)

Yes we are the producers, but still some recognition from JimmyM is something to brag about, certainly regarding a Virtual Ampeg tone! :)

Well, there are quite many Norwegian bass player on TB, and for us you are celebrity! ;) As the non official Ampeg front man in this forum you will be happy to know that most teens in Norway play on a BA115 in one point of their life. The BA115 is probably on of the most sold bass combos here. So Ampeg is a well known brand, even here north to the polar circuit, so for a Norwegian TB user the name JimmyM is almost equivalent with the founder of Ampeg. Who knows.... If you sign somebody's bass it might actually increase its value. ;)

Anyway, on my last two takes I used the B15R alone on one track and with the Møller T Rex OD on the other.

Here's setting to try:

I got bored yesterday, and decided to hook up to the PA, which I don't do very often because I'm not I'm a band ATM and my PA is in the basement. Easier to grab the TripleFi 10's and jam in the living room.

Anyway, as I was playing I was also tweaking. I noticed my low end seemed a bit confused, so I tried adding the para EQ to the chain. No luck dialing in the lower frequencies, so I tried something else.

The envelope filter (?!?)!! YES!! Instead of using it as an auto wah, I used it as a HPF/shelving EQ. After a few minutes of tweaking, I was able to dial in the tightest low end yet with Irig!!

I'm gonna keep tweaking today, but with the B15R, the mastering compressor, and the envelope filter, I've got a very solid bass tone that should sound great in a mix.

I'll try to record something later, but I'm not sure how well it'll translate to "tape" because I'm using the filter to compensate for what's in the room.

I just did a quick test with the envelope filter. I tweaked it quite a bit this afternoon while plugged into the PA, so all my settings are based on that, and may be a bit extreme.

The first part is the B15R with the mastering compression only. The second part is the B15R with mastering compression, with the envelope filter added.

Has anyone tried the Slash Chorus?

I'm not big into overdriven bass sounds, but the Slash Chorus looks interesting. It has better tone controls than the standard chorus that's included.

Anyone try it?

EDIT: Just bought the Slash X-Chorus. Review later.

Quick first impression on the Slash X-Chorus.

This pedal was $2.99 as an in-app add-on. Totally worth it. Nice sounding chorus without any low end loss thanks to the 2-band EQ.

Very cool pedal. Glad I bought it. My Irig setup is sounding better and better. I'm pretty confident that it'll do great live, but I'm not sure many soundguys would give it a chance. They're probably gonna laugh at me for trying to plug my iPhone into the PA!!

Here's the current setup. The envelope filter is kinda cool as an extra tone, but I'm still tweaking it.

The X-Chorus is way cool. So much room for adjustment, no extra noise.

I've tried it, but never posted anything with it. It is quite nice, better then standard chorus as you say.
Btw, I've all the add ons in Amplitube and almost all in Ampkit+

At one point I had all the addons in AT, but then Slash came along, and I don't play enough guitar to really warrant all the guitar stuff so I started picking and choosing.

I stopped adding to AmpKit when I finally started getting good sounds in Amplitube. With all the other features, AT is the clear winner, so I've been spending most of my time there.

I still may add the Moller overdrive, because the other two ODs don't really do it for me. I rarely play with distortion of any kind, so it's not high on my list. I think the Slash delay is next.

I'm also VERY interested in the Slash Gate, mostly because of the HISS switch. Does it effectively get rid of high end hiss without destroying your tone?

i haven't tried the envelope filter. it seams that duke, you would appear to have a lot of your high and mids gone and the posting seams lifeless. lifeless maybe a harsh word. not your playing but it just seamed darker and quieter maybe not as strong a signal.... I'll try to listen to it on a different output like a stereo system. i really didn't know what the envelope filter did so i looked it up just now. :)
from the knob position it would be cutting from somewhere around 850-900 hz and up off... thats most of the signal gone. a bass is only in the 40 - 4000 range. but maybe thats the way you planned it. i was using the 6 band eq for a cut off but ill give the Env. Filt. a try.
i noticed Paul's was much higher of a cut off at 75%....i guess maybe that would be around 2600 hz. res at 0% depth at 100%.


(for documentation sake)

(fig. 4.1 from the AT ios phone version manual)

the cuttoff knob "set the cutoff frequency of the filter, from 100 Hz to 3,500 Hz."

the res knobs "sets the resonance of the filter from 0 to 10."
....whatever that means. the resonance of what?

the depth knob "changes the amount of effect that the envelope has on the filter from 0 to 10"

I did the same, until yesterday, but I finally folded. It's worth it, it's a GREAT sounding Chorus.

The experimenting I did with the envelope filter was just that, experimenting. I had no idea of the frequencies from the manual because I didn't bother to look. I just tweaked until it sounded good, assuming no resonance would eliminate the wah effect. I'll be revisiting it now that you've posted that into from the manual.

The filter isn't something's that's always on for me, more of a second tone if I need it.

if they do laugh they will stop when they hear what it sounds like and how easy it is for them to dial you in for the mix......:)

they will come around....
at first mine (sound guys) were iffy :rollno:
In my situation with no amps allowed on stage, some of the other band members are starting to consider going the AT direction too.

i just saw that you are using the SM57 mic on your set up what's your reasoning there?
have you used a real sm57 on your real gear live?

Lol, yes lifeless could be a way to describe it compared to my regular tone.
I actually tried hard to sound different then I usually do! And btw I used my CV60 P bass which have old rounds on it.
And yes the knob was about 720hz. So basically I tried to get this Moog Taurus kind of deep sound! :)
As it is only lows you will indeed need to listen to the clips on a stereo rig or good headphones.
