NBD! Just got this sweet Ray34 off of TBer TimBosby. Check out the grain on this particular example! The original owner had swapped the factory black pup for this white alnico MM pup. He also had put on white knobs and a different (black) pickguard (with a Batman/Superman logo on it). I swapped the in the original clear guard and installed some really nice, aluminum knobs that I had laying around from another project. I left the white MM pup installed for now as it sounds really REALLY, good! Still amazed by the grain on this baby!
Congrats, the grain is amazing! It appears to be a 2 piece body. The clear PG and white pup should stay!
I really love looking at wood grain so have rarely bought guitars or basses with opaque finishes. Enjoy your new bass!
Reminds me of the (IMO) super cool sand blasted Fender basses. I dig this immensely dude. Hella tight
Very nice, I'm always a big fan of wood grain and that body is striking. Looks like a roasted maple neck too. Great score and yes, the white PU looks just right.
This is one of the only sub $1K basses I'm GASsing for. Looks great! What's the weight? (Not to be cliche) Another TB member posted the same model the other day and said it was 11.4lbs (if I remember correctly)
Beautiful! That's a ceruse finish (pronounced sair-oo-zay.) George Fulantetto at F-Bass has been doing this technique for decades. It's quite striking. +1
Sweet I recently got a Ray35 with an alnico pickup and I've been really impressed with the tone. Mine is only 9.5 lbs (mahogany body) but from what I've seen out there that isn't typical and finding 12-13 lb examples is not uncommon, especially in the 5 string version. Congrats on a killer find, I dig the white PU
Some of the Ray 34s have incredible finishes...that is definitely one of them. Every bit as nice as some of the Musicman BFR Basses. Truth is, yours looks twice as nice with the white pickup.
