OHMS question !!

Hey Everyone,

I just bought the Eden E300t cheap tube head.....and I'm really surprise at how good sounding it is... despite the fact that it's built in China and all the screw were loose...lol

I'm wondering..... I have a 4x10 XLT 4ohms and I have a 2x15 4ohms..... I wanna have that massive rig .... I already use the 2 cabs with my WT800 in Bi-amp .....Since the E300t has choice of 8 or 4ohms output ......Can I switch it to 8ohms and use the 2 outputs of the head in my cabs ??

You could make a special series cable, which will make two 4 ohm cabs 8 ohms impedence for the amp. It also makes your amp produce less power in 8 ohms. I would say that a 2x15 cab is massive enough, so just use that. Oh, I get the joke... There is nothing cheap about that amp you just got! that's an $1700 amp!

Not quite, yes you could run two identical 4Ω cabinets in series and achieve 8Ω. Dissimilar cabs can react detrimentally with each other. Secondly series connection is inadvisable for a tube amp on the grounds that there are more cables to fail, each of them capable of leaving the amp without a load connected.

Ok then......it's really better to keep them as 2 separate rigs.....and If I wanna have 2 ... buy new cabs...

I thought it would be a good idea cuz when I used the 2 cabs with the Wt800 it was sounding fabulous !!

Im going to get if for this, but the first point doesn't matter if it's series or parallel, and people run mismatched cabs together full range on here all the time...regardless of the cancellation effects. Two speakers on a horizonal field cause problems too. Every 4x10 in a square is a bad desgin..etc.

I didn't know that an Tube amp could be damaged if it didn't have a load on it, so thanks for the helpful hint! I guess there is always a possibilty that a cable could get yanked out while you are busy playing. There is also always that chance that you will seize up a woofer and create a dead short, frying an amp...series or parallel...or the sky might fall...there is always something.

just use the 2x15...that should be enough volume to do anything you need. You will get tired of just hauling that around, and another cab on top of that will seem like overkill after the first load out.

I'm not talking cancelation but when you place crossovers in the series equation all sort of weird and wonderful things can happen. So yes it does matter!

P.S. In the life of a traveling musician, equipment fails and what CAN happen often DOES! In my time I've seen it all as have most of us!

Rule #1 of tube amp use is not to run the thing without a load.

What do you mean by '''without a load'' ? You're talking about resistance ??

3 plugs. Wire the Tip of 1 to the Sleeve of 2. Wire the Tip of 2 to the Sleeve of 3. Wire the Tip of 3 to the Sleeve of 1.

Use neon pink extension cord wire (really; maybe not pink but something that'll stand out like a sore thumb) & LABEL the cord well.



I was under the understanding that a tube head'd put out the same wattage at either 4 or 8 ohms. It's a transformer output, not a current amp output.
