Ohms?

I have been playing combos ever since I've been playing bass (6 months) and looking at new amps for the future. I still don't understand ohms. From what I'm looking at, the heads run at 4 ohms while the cabs run 8 ohms. What does this all mean. Also, what is a good guide to head/cabs?

There's an ohm FAQ here, dig it up and enjoy the read. I don't know of a good "easy" or "short" guide to heads/cabs, but this forum is full of threads worth reading. I'd say start in with whichever threads catch your eye, and take notes anytime you see a brand name or a technical term that you want to know more about. Then search on those specific names/terms to read more about them. Pretty soon you'll be an expert. :)

As far as heads running at 4 ohms and cabs running at 8, that's a misunderstanding. Heads and cabs both can have a variety of different ratings.
