OK-How much does a Rickenbacker cost for goodness sake?

OK, can someone please tell me what a Ricky 4003 costs these days. I have NEVER seen the price printed. Always says call for details.

Add to that, the price of these basses used has almost a 100% variance. I've seen 'em ask less than $1000 here on TB and I have seen the same years and models ask $1700.

Besides great marketing from Ric, what is going on?? What do these basses cost new and what is a fair price for a used one?

That was a VERY uninformed seller unless there was something wrong with the bass. New ones get snapped up pretty quickly at dealers, and if you order a brand new one through a dealer you're guaranteed at least a year's wait. The demand for Rics outweighs the supply, hence them fetching such high prices on the used market.

Up to $7k for some. And even with an order and a deposit, Bass Centre said they couldn't guarantee delivery time or that I'd get exactly the finish I wanted. We more or less "get what they send us".
That's why I bought my Greco. Not that I'd spend $A7k on anything unless it was a Status.

Well, I've had 3 Statuses and approx 8 Rics and I'd pick Rics over Statuses 99% of the time...each to their own I guess.

There is a mint Rickenbacker 4003 Jetglo + case on ebay UK for £1250.

Another 4003 Jetglo in 'excellent' condition on Ebay UK but made in June 1990. IT has 4 days and 8 hours and is sitting at £330. I imagine it to go for £1200 probably ?

From guitarguitar (probably the best bass/guitar dedicated 'store' in the UK :p) they have all the 4003s in various finishes but only 'Blueburst' is In stock the rest are 'on order'
