Ok Ibanez Players Decisions decisions

I have an opportunity to pick up either an SR1305E or an Sr1805E both at very good prices . So what direction do I go . They both feel, Play and Sound good so what is the better choice. It appears they both have Nordy Big singles in them not sure what the rest of the electronics is . I am looking for a Jazz Bass killer sort of. So what do you say?

According to Hoshino Gakki website, seems both have the same electronics as well, so you might choose based on their appearances (wood tops), which one do you prefer. But, there's a possibility the one with the higher number has better feature, although I couldn't find any on their specs. In the case of SR1805 replacement, which is the current SR1825, the neck is described to have titanium reinforcement rods.

They're the same bass other than the woods used, don't think you'll hear any difference in the sound.
Get the one you find prettiest.

II am looking for a Jazz Bass killer sort of. So what do you say?

I had a 1205 for awhile and - like you - I was looking for something Jazz-ish that wasn't exactly a Jazz.....I loved how my 1205 played (typical fast neck Ibanez)...I did not like the Nords - I thought they were too dark and de-emphasized what I wanted in a Jazz-type sound for variety/dance music (YMMV and all that stuff, especially if you play other styles). I know Nords get a lot of love around these parts but they weren't for me and there were one or two others around here with a similar experience.........Best of luck; I hope it works out for you better than it did for me

all that Thanks for the info guys. I Played them both a couple of times and Did find the nords a bit dark also and not all that articulate so I am holding off for right now.

The big Nordstrands seem to be a bit of a love/hate thing.

Other than that, there are some good advice in this thread. If the specs (and price) are similar, go with the one you think is prettiest.

I have an SR1305E, but I also felt the Big Singles were too dark for what I wanted to hear from the 1305 - so now it sports Aguilar DCB's.

Hmmm, I don't find the Big Singles dark at all. I actually turn down the highs on both my SR5SMLTD and SR2605E. I'm going through a GK MBF800 and NEO 212. They have amazing punch and deliver on all EQ points (at least IMHO).

And I'd go with the 1805...nothing against the 1305, I've played a few 1805s have really enjoyed them.

I didn't find them overly dark or anything, just wasn't looking for a single coil tone. I wanted something more open and extended in the top end than a single coil pickup. I quite enjoyed the Big Singles for fingerstyle playing though - very thick & full in that regard.
