Yes i remembered reading that on TB b4, but i thought i d try them once, what are D' addario s like?

Ok so i bought a set of Rotosound strings today. 10 x better than the Nanowebs but i cut the B too short so it s only got about half a wind around the post...it s also a SLIGHTLY lighter guage 125....i think the old one was about a 130. The B is soft. Could this b coz its not enough winds on the post?

Yes. You need a couple winds to have the proper break angle/tension at the nut.

Come to think of it, Roto has nickel strings, too, but I don't know what they're like. I've used Elixir forever, because they last forever. As long as your p'ups and pre are good/musical, they sound wonderful...well, to me! Anyway, D'Addario are solid...lot of people like the regular XL's, as they're not that bad at all, and string life is decent. I recently tried another string (I didn't have new Elixirs around), and really enjoyed DR's new strings, called "Pure Blues". They feel like Elixir, and aren't harsh like a steel string, as they're (I think) all nickel, but sound really nice and full, and last a good amount of time.

It's all good, as those Rotos will be dead soon, so just do it right with the next set! Don't fret (pun intended).

I m eager to see how long they last. should i buy another B string, they sell seperate strings?

Not sure if they ship worldwide, but try juststrings.com or bassstringsonline.com. Both have "single string" sections. I buy singles all the time for weird gauges.

No, i meant the shop i go to sell seperate strings, might not b Rotosound though, is that ok?

Ah, well, as long as you try to get another steel string, like your Roto, or DR, etc. As long as the strings are all still new or close to new, then it shouldn't be toooo big of a deal. I've done it before with different materials, and the worst scenario, is that the one string dies at a different time than the others.

Tilt-back headstocks are more forgiving of fewer wraps around the post. As at long as it stays in tune, I wouldn't worry about it. (Although you could try loosening the tension on the string some, and trying to push the windings further down the post. That couldn't hurt.)

Don't worry about your frets. All strings will put wear on them, perhaps some more than others. The price of doing business.

Ok Thanks. But it s a lot softer than the original B. Too soft. Maybe try a bigger guage? The original was at least a 130/135/140 maybe?

Well, sure. All other things being equal, a lighter gauge string will have less tension than a heavier string.

But the number of wraps on the post will have no effect on string tension.

If you like the strings, then sure, try a heavier gauge of the same string. You should be able to pick up a single B-string.
