I went out to hear my fav local band, during the break i was talking to (and trying to flirt with) the bass player, whom i know. And the (new) rhythm guitar guy walked over and introduced himself and told me he played guitar..i think i probly nodded and stared at him like he had two heads because after i didn't shake the hand he had proffered (i don't shake hands) he wandered off.

Dude, you interrupted us talking about basses....!

ok, i do shake when it's needed... but when someone just walks up to me, interrupting my conversation, and introduces himself like he knows me already or something it throws me off. I can meet people perfectly fine w/o having to touch them.

But yeah, once i know you, i'm a hugger, even sweaty drummers!

I like your style:D The only thing better would have been if the "lead" guitar player introduced himself with the "I'm the LEAD guitar player" schtick. Classic.

Bet he won't last long in the band, this violates at least two unwritten man-codes.

Back in the day, it was considered improper for a man to offer a handshake to a woman. It just wasn't done in polite society. It was the woman's prerogative to put a hand out or not. A light pat on the ass was acceptable, though.

Yep, true. That said, I think refusing a hand when one is offered, as if such refusal is a point of some sort of principle, is just plain ignorant bad manners, regardless of genders involved. YMMV.

These days in the business world, most women will offer a handshake, but I still watch their body language to see if it's going to happen. Growing up, my family wasn't all huggy-type, and it's taken some getting used to with many business women who want to give me a hug. These are not up-and-comers, they're high-level executives. Ultimately, it's OK with me.
