Okay, here goes...

this amp has a charming sound to it :D Assuming of course you like warm vintage cleans, and angry chainsaw distortion!

Good description.:smug:

I don't think running it into overdrive would hurt the transistors, as long as heat doesn't get out of hand. I don't know of any Peavey amps that can't do 4 ohms if not lower. Double check to be sure, but it could be just that it's an 8ohm combo with no extension jack. If you don't want to do the headcase thing, could just add a parallel jack on the back of the combo. My speaker seemed to handle a lot of that distortion, but, I think I'd be more concerned about cooking the speaker before the amp. With 2 of those speakers, they could probably handle running the amp all the way up.

In other words, with 1 speaker, I'd think the speaker would be the weak link. With 2 speakers, then I'd be watching the amp heat.

What part of the country you in?

I'm in the middle of moving a bunch of crap right now, but if things settle down in a couple weeks, and if I can find the box with that speaker in it, and if it's still in good shape after all the moving, I could mail it to you. Lot's of "if's" there I know, but I'd pass it on to someone who'd enjoy it. Stuff still pops up on CL once in a while here that has those if I want another one. TB'er " askrere " had one he was wanting to sell off, if he still has it. More "if's".:)

Most (all?) SS amps should be able to handle 4 ohms. On the other hand, some might not. 4 ohms is about 1.5x the power output, which may make the amp unhappy. It'll sure heat up faster and draw more current. Perhaps it wasn't made with a heatsink to dissipate more heat, or maybe the extra current drawer puts the output transistors out of their SOA. I doubt it, but those are reasons a lower load wouldn't work.

Who am I kidding, it's a Peavey. :D Those things are over-engineered tanks. It should be fine.
