Okay, So I sliced my fingers open.

WOW... THAT SUCKS! anyway, I'm guessing you play a right handed bass like most people. You could bandage it up really good, and then if you dont already try using a pick? Cause if you're still going to fingure it... I'd say your screwed :hmm:

So I went home yesterday and tried to play for about an hour and it wasn't so bad. I switched it up and used a pick for some songs, slapped for some songs, and played like a 3-fingered classical guitarist for some songs. Not so bad, but I zinged the nerves a few times, which was bad.

Here's my plan: Liquid Band-aids or Nu Skin...a band aid, then some duct tape on my fingertips. Play with a pick or by any means possible...get well and truly inebriated during the course of the evening...try to pull it off.

It's Wednesday...and nobody goes out on Wednesday's, right? :hmm:

Another kicker: I just found out the band's getting interviewed by a local music support site and we'll be videotaped by a film student for a project documentary...snippets will be on our website. yay

Well, I survived. Liquid Band-Aid and sports tape did the trick. Great turn-out, good (strange) interview, and kudos to the sound guy who had to deal with me switching techniques constantly. I'd go from a biting pick tone to a muted-by-sports-tape fingerstyle to slapping, but he did a great job and refused the $20 tip I offered him afterward. The overall sound was still kinda crappy, though. We had a couple of girls dancing up on us while we played 'Linoleum' by NoFX (which I'd never played), and they did things that would embarass my mother while we played 'Sex Kitten', an original. Got home at 2:30, woke up at 4:30, and am at work by 5:45.

Now I've got 4 days 'til my next two-hour show. Thanks for all the advice and well-wishes. You people rock.

MO' sorry i couldn't make the show, the funds weren't there.. i wish i would've seen this thread before you played! I definitely would've had to go to see your trapeze act.. I've had digit damage just hours before a show and it's not fun.. I got in a fight with a wall one drunken evening and had to play the next night with crunched knuckles and swollen digits.. needless to say the wall won that one, but i still played!! If you're not busy Sunday come hit Blind Melons, Devices is playing at 10:00... gonna try to see you guys again soon man
