OLD EMG Select help

I have early 1990 EMG Select Jazz Bass pickups and am the original owner. The wiring from each pickup is (1) White Co-ax wire and (1) red wire. One of the guys I was playing with back then added a 9 volt battery connection to both red wires...don't remember why exactly because I used to party a bit back then but I digress...:hiding:

As I was working on installing these pickups to a project bass, the red wire(s)from the pickups broke off the battery terminal. The Battery terminal is currently connected by a black wire (By itself) to a lug on the input jack of the wiring harness.

So I have 2 questions.

I believe these EMG Select Pickups were originally passive, as they are produced now. Is that right? Fellow gen-x people give a shout out here...:bassist:

If they were passive, I feel fine with with wiring this guy up without a battery as I plan on upgrading the pickups in the future anyway...so where do I connect the red wires? I have already prepped the white wire to reattach to the volume pots so I'm cool there.

Where does the red wire live?

Dugdog, thanks for the reply. I contacted Stewmac on the phone shortly after my last posting. Because of the age of the pickup, they couldn't tell me which wire is which because it is so old. I sent an e-mail to EMG a while back but did not hear back. I picked up a GFS while I wait...
