If the Fender Bassman cabinet has original speakers and not missing a bunch of stuff, or modifications, I'd go with it. And as a bonus for scoring the classic cab at a decent price, the cab should be a nice lower end boost, combined with your amp and EQ abilities for your rig. A variable would be whether or not the Bassman cab has original speakers and, whether original or not, their condition. For a good while, I used a Sunn Colosiem 300 with an original Bassman cab that I had the original speakers rebuilt in and added an Acoustic 106 2-15 cab. What a great combo. Lots of whatever you needed with the help of your amps EQ. I'm digressing a bit, but many threads I've read, along with seeing rigs in action, I'm amazed at how amp EQs are used so little by a lot of bass players. In my experience, you can get just about any sound from your rig with all the possibilities that your EQ bands offer. A tremendous advantage to the early rigs with bass, treble and sometimes middle controls only. Not sure why this feature is not used to the fullest by many. Anyway, with the Bassman cab, you can use it and still have something that will hold its value, more so if original speakers etc. That's exactly what I did. I still use the cab, although very carefully since I replaced the tolex and grill cloth. It is stunning looking now as well as functional. On the extra bracing that Froggy mentioned, I didn't have to do that, but I did have to add some more back screws to prevent vibration rattles. Enjoy!
