I was studying electronic music before I ever got a bass or guitar. I've had my Roland SH-09 and Juno 6 even longer than I've had the Ripper. As electronics do when they near forty years of age, things start to get scratchy, glitchy and generally not work quite like new. In the last two weeks I've had both these old friends into the local shop where they were cleaned, tweaked, and generally treated nice and healed.
Turns out I am still a huge fan of these things and actually I know how to make a lot of cool sounds with them.
I've also figured out how to do some old school sync: the Juno has an arpeggiator, and I figured out how to use the TR-505 (which is handy to program) to trigger sounds on my MFB-503 drum machine (which sounds cool but is hard to program) while also syncing the Juno arpeggiator using a Kenton Pro-2, that happens to take MIDI clock and generate arp clock and can divide the 24 clocks per beat by anything from 2 to 24 to determine arp clock tempo.
I'd been neglecting these old synths because they were too cranky to get reliable sounds from.
Fun times now ensuing with the cool toys!
