Maybe it's because he seems to be specialized in metal music, so he thinks he needs to yell all the time? Like, dunno, maybe the singer of a metal band yells at home when he ask his wife "pass me the salt"?Other recording engineers pay good money to therapists. This guy just yells at a camera for an hour, puts it on Youtube and monetizes his trauma. Genius.
Ditto. Yelling is the giveaway. He really needs to switch from coffee to tea. Plus he talks about tone and speakers; maybe I am metallist but it all sounds the same to me. You could use a kazoo through that much gain and it would sound the sameI knew it was Glenn even before clicking the link.
Now if I wasn't English, I could do something similar. But it would be me yelling about YouTubers who yell.Other recording engineers pay good money to therapists. This guy just yells at a camera for an hour, puts it on Youtube and monetizes his trauma. Genius.
Back when I was kids, which was slightly after the dinosaurs died, kids TV had gentle voices on (e.g., original Clangers). My dogs like to watch kids TV sometimes (middle dog loves this: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse (film) - Wikipedia but hides her head when the mole is in the water), but even they don't like the shouty stuff they have these days. So I watch a fair bit of Clangers...Studies show kids watch longer if you are always shouting. Same for channels like Mr. beast.
i cant stand this guy though. the gig is getting old.
I found his shouty shtick unnecessary, but his points are interesting. He's speaking specifically to metal recording but thought provoking nonetheless. Thanks for the clickbait. I could only stand the first 14 seconds. That’s the kind of crap I diligently avoid.
Cool thread title though.
Maybe you could save us all a migraine and provide a brief summary of these interesting points?I found his shouty shtick unnecessary, but his points are interesting. He's speaking specifically to metal recording but thought provoking nonetheless.
For me, it's either super obvious, or I dissagree ("no palm mute"???), the only interesting point - for me - is:Maybe you could save us all a migraine and provide a brief summary of these interesting points?
It's all about the speakers. Bassists suck. Floyd Rose trems suck even more than bassists.Maybe you could save us all a migraine and provide a brief summary of these interesting points?
Now I get it - the speakers round off the harshness of all that gain.Ditto. Yelling is the giveaway. He really needs to switch from coffee to tea. Plus he talks about tone and speakers; maybe I am metallist but it all sounds the same to me. You could use a kazoo through that much gain and it would sound the same.
