Old school Classic Rock/ Fat round sound amp.

Also, which Rumble cab do you have?

The Vintage style or the Black one?

Another option would be trying to find a used older Fender Bassman 300 PRO. They were amazing.
Wow, that looks like a match made in heaven! I have the Rumble 410 cab with the same black metal grill and metal logo plate. How does it compare to the new 100t? Just more power? Also how hard would it be to find one of the old ones? Haven't noticed any on E-Bay, Guitar Center Used site, Music go Round, or here on the classifieds. What price range am I looking at for it? $800-$1000ish?

Hey Mate,

Not sure about the US, but they pop up here in Aus here and there for around $1000. There's a few stores that have a brand new one for about $1800 AUD

From what I have seen, they are a modernized version of the Super Bassman. They have a 10 band EQ, Compressor, go down to 2Ohms.

I played one a few years ago on top of a Fender PRO 410 and sounded great. It didn't have the grind of an SVT, a cleaner tube sound. Just didn't have enough cash back to buy one.

I play a Fender P through the Hartke LH500 into a 4 ohm, 212 cab with ports. Easy to transport and puts out lots of fat sound. A good solid amp with a tubed pre amp. No not a vintage Ampeg but for the price it does the job I want without breaking my back or wallet.
I have seriously thought about the Hartke LH500. Guitar Center had them marked down to $291.00 on Their black Friday 2 or 3..or 4 ha The one this past sunday anyway. So I submitted a price match through same day music and they came back at $285.00 w/ free shipping! Very tempting and sounds good from the youtube reviews that I've seen but haven't played one in person yet so its hard to pull the trigger.

Hey OZ, Does it not have the overdrive channel that the 100T has? The 100T is a strong contender. 2 channels, 8-4-0r 2 ohm options, 100-25- or record options, Auto Bias... It definitely has all the bells and whistles. The overdrive channel sounds pretty amazing too!

Old School Classic Rock/Fat sound = Ampeg V4B Reissue. It's a very plug and play amp and is more versatile than you would think. If you want a big full round tone that's exactly what this amp is. The breakup with this amp is very gradual and smooth.

What sort of bass do you play? How is it strung?
Hey Jim,
Fender Classic Vibe P in Sonic blue w/ Bill Lawrence Wilde p-46's strung EADG
Peavey T-40 Red/Maple neck EADG
Jackson JS3 With EMG35 CS neck/35J Bridge BQS Pre, Hipshot ultralite tuners, DGCF
Jackson CBX 4 stock with HZ's DGCF
And my beloved 1993 Fender USA (Boner) Jazz bass. This one was sent to Herc Fede back in May/June for a custom paint job shortly before he passed away. 100's of emails later I still have not recieved it back yet. I occasionally get an email from his wife Jessica saying its will ship soon..then nothing. If anyone has any connections around Mt Holly Springs Pa please PM me. I'm Sick of waiting and becoming hopeless. This probably could be a whole other thread unfortunately.. Id really like to get my baby back.

The V4B is only 8-4 ohms stable correct? My current cab is 4 ohms. Would you guess it be loud enough with only one cab against 2 marshall half stacks at reasonable volume levels? It wouldn't give me the option of adding a second cab if necessary is my only concern. I do love Ampeg! Any experience comparing the V4B with a Traynor YBA?

IMHO, the fatness is going to increase as you have less baked-in speaker tone, less baked in amp tone, and more control over EQ.

The cab is a given, so yes, you could spend $XXXX on a new tube head, but seriously, why not try a pedal that makes your Classic Vibe P go active? Much more EQ range that way.

A VT Bass, ToneHammer, or one of the Sansamps would be a good place to start, IMHO. This is a good way to deal with baked-in tone and the limits of the passive P-bass EQ.

If you have enough power, stick with it. If not, I would not send my bucks down the "tubes are the answer to every question" route. Find a powerful clean head that can support a wide range of cabs and pre-amps.

Also, you could do a pre amp or pedal as a preamp now, if you have an effects-receive that defeats the built-in preamp and your headroom is good.

I owned the YBA200-2 for a while and its a good amp with a pretty beefy tone. It didn't seem to have as much clean headroom as the V4BR does and is not nearly as versatile. When I was looking for a new amp it came down to the Fender 100t or the Ampeg V4BR. I chose the V4B for it's tone and simplicity. The Fender has too many bells and whistles for me. They have also had quite a bit of problems with the auto bias system. The V4BR just has some kind of special mojo goin on.

the Fender Rumble 500 has vintage tone, and the vintage button with the treble rolled off to 9 nails if for me with a PBass and 10s. Similar to my TH500/350 Aguilar amps, but different, and at a much lower price point.
