Ah; that would be something to say in your thread title I have two tied for oldest; both are classical (nylon-string) guitars made in 1972. One is a Martin N-10 and the other is a Garcia Grade III. My oldest basses are not old at all; I have a pair of 2006 Line6 Variax 705s. I'm not into the whole vintage thing for electric (solid-body) instruments.
Yep Oh I forgot to PM you the other day. My friend had sold the Variax on CL the day before I PMed you in the first place. I guess I'm a bit behind the times eh?
I suspect my Kay electric semi-hollowbody is from the late '50s but I haven't tried to date it more precisely.
my oldest bass is my 1973 LYLE SG/EB copy. every now and then I'll take it off the shelf, and jam on it, but I have played long scale basses for so long now, it's just a joke to even pick up anymore. I reversed the nut and saddles ( not shown in this picture ) so I can show people I can play lefty normal, as well as lefty inverted as my other basses are righty basses flipped over-played inverted.
'66 Fender Mustang Bass. Kinda cool because it's a really early one (before they had even made "Mustang Bass" decals, so it's pieced together from a Mustang decal and a "Bass V" decal).
That's how they made them back then. Remeber this was 69. Hippies, corded phones, dinosaurs- and backwards basses.
1974 Fender P and a 1969 Hagstrom Concord Deluxe franken-bass. Hagstrom neck, pickups and electronics dropped into a crappy '60's Teisco or similar body. The '74 P is amazing but the Hagstrom is a piece of crap. I swapped out all pots and completely redid the bass and it is still just worthy as a decoration on my wall.
