After many months of working my butt off for bands who are not ready to play a show when it's show time, I am finding myself in the unenviable position of not being ready myself.

Why?

Well, it mostly comes down to realizing that nobody else will be ready so what's gained by me doing the extra work?

That said, I'll probably go over my trouble spots a couple of times tomorrow and be fine.

And the sad truth is that as long as I hold that long note at the end of every song I sing, for as long as I possibly can, just to get the cheap applause, nobody will care about anything else I did, and they'll applaud like crazy and it will be a good night.

Lyrics are always the last thing to come to me. And even once I know them backwards and forwards, the thing I'm most likely to mess up. And the thing the audience is most likely to notice. Break a leg and knock 'em dead!
I'm planning to. I have a good day planned. Good things are happening in all spheres of my existence so this is going to be a good show. I just know it.

Live music LB. Everyone screws up. Nobody cares.

Have fun. Do your best. It's entertainment, not nuclear physics.

You got it

Actually I care and I know I haven't prepped as well as I could have ...plus the set is as boring as hell...which is probably the reason or big part.
And I know I'll hear and grimmace over bits or clams that other will not, but it doesnt make it ok.

So, I'm playing for myself and I know if I do it well, it will be pretty decent but we are into the territory of chosing which ground to fight on. Why make it more difficult.
But people do.... its a massive killer for bands ime.

Sounds like a classic case of burnout. Might want to take a break from gigging for a bit, if your wallet allows, to recapture the love of it.

As I age, I notice that I can't remember lyrics as well as I used to. When you have a set list of fifty songs, and a reserve of another fifty or so, it's pretty difficult for me to remember them all. And my lung capacity is not what it used to be, due to age and a medication I take. And my stamina is not great. The load in and out, the heat, the cold, the wildfire smoke, all has an affect on me. Someday I won't be able to do it any more. But in the meantime, I have two gigs this week. Rock on!

Wait... So you're saying it's not all because of the wild orgies, booze-fueled week-long parties and illicit drug use inherent to the life of the working bassist?
