Onboad Pre with effects?

There was an it wasn't all that great. I remember those things and they were pretty clunky. I've thought about putting effects in my bass and once built a very radical 3 band filter into a bass. It had so much resonance that you could easily get it to oscillate and it could go very subsonic. Ultimately, though, it was pretty silly.

These days I'm thinking about putting my Alembic Superfilter into my '67 Starfire.

Way back in the day, gibson built a couple basses with fuzztones built in.

The L6 pocket pod you could mount in a bass - includng the ac jack and run adapter to it (runs on batteries but eats 'em for lunch). Not for bass but actually would work depending on what you're looking for. I've messed around with one a lot lately. Digital stuff is improving all the time and it's about there at an easily accessible price point. New stuff comes out all the time so something modular would be a practical approach unless you wanted to refit over time. Anyway, the pocket pod is almost too small for an independent unit and sticking one in a body is practically a logical next step.

The biggest downside (besides the technical issues) is that you could only use the effect with one bass.
I'm also wondering why we want to put all the tone shaping preamps in the bass. Why not keep them on the floor or in the rack?

I *really* wanted to add a boss compression-sustainer pedal inside my bass back in the early 1980's since it was always on. I dreamed of routing the back of that old P-Bass to fit it in. That's what I remember every time I've considered mounting an effect since...pedals improve over time. What a pain in the ass it would be when you want to change to a newer/better version! Much easier to sell old pedal, buy new one, plug in.

I am doing this now with a project Benavente bass I picked up...

I will be installing a russian big muff with the Bartolini pickups/preamp, and it will be switchable on off with a switch.

Just a side note, I have a Muff in my board, but I use the effect alot. I can turn it on, wirelessly from accross the room, and not have to worry about staying in one place...

I'll let you know how it goes...

in a local thrift store (great for old amps!) there is an old offbrand explorer called the effector, it has OD, autowah, flanger,phaser, fuzz,and octave down. each has its own little on/off button. built right into the guitar
