Once again, Flea's solo stuff is not what I expect

I'm really looking forward to this album. The supporting case is stellar and I've enjoyed the songs that have been released thus far.
I really think he should further explore his horn playing as he's obviously very good. While I enjoyed the clip (actually saw it when it was aired), I got bored with the repeating lead line. I expected to hear a bit more improv but I enjoyed it for what it was. Nice to see a different side of him.

The kid on upright is good too. I wonder if some of these players are kids from his school?
Hah, that's Anna Butterss. They're exceptional. SML is one of their projects, fantastic stuff if you're into what they're doing.
Trumpet is flat. But GREAT to hear him working the horn - digging the sensibility and intentions...

Yeah... that 'kid' is a great jazz bassist and has been on the road with Jason Isbell for quite a few years now.
I haven't listened to his album yet, but I'm going to. His interview with Rick Beato was great.
Oops. I guess the album doesn't come out until this Thursday. I did watch the Tonight Show clip. Loved it.
The way he talked about the jazz legends, I was expecting more of their style. Flea went to the same high school in Los Angeles as I did, Fairfax High, he was class of '80, I was '67. He was recruited into the California Jr. Philharmonic for trumpet by my high school friend (his uncle established the group in 1939). After Flea become famous, my friend booked him as a featured artist with the orchestra.

Yeah, seemed to improve as he went along. Didn't really bug me though, I dug the intentionality and feeling.
