F. Scott Fitzgerald was once quoted that there are no second acts in American lives, but as perceptive a writer as he was, I think he stumbled with that one. Big E was all but forgotten, a victim of all those stupid movies, Colonel Parker, and changing times, but the phrase " '68 Comeback" is shorthand for all sorts of things beyond just him, a euphemism for beating all the odds and re-establishing yourself. Unfortunately, it quickly went haywire(at least there were the Memphis sessions that soon followed), and of course did not end well, but for a brief moment when this show was broadcast, he regained his power and glory...
