Once again, Rush dissapoints

So the setlist just leaked for the upcoming Rush r40 tour. Everyone expected to see a "deep cuts" tour of all sorts of obscure songs....

Well, looks like we're getting the same old Tom Sawyer/Spirit of Radio/2112 nexus that they've been playing every tour since the beginning of time. Throw in a few of the newer lamer songs off of the horrific Clockwork Angels for good measure and you have an idea of the setlist.

Sorry, the addition of Jacob's Ladder, one of Rush's more boring numbers if you ask me, does not justify the lame and unimaginative setlist that it's a part of. I'm glad I kept my $200 for the ticket and spent it instead on an Idiotbox pedal.

I'd be pretty pissed if I was the pedestrian Rush fan that plunked down $80 for a ticket and all I got were some cheesy synthed out B-Sides for a couple of hours. I'm a huge Neil Young fan, but I'm not buying a ticket just so I can watch him rail against Monsanto for half the night and not play any of his hits...I think most Rush fans might feel the same way.

2 what they enjoy playing, and can reproduce easily.

The goal is not to please the small minority of hard core fans.

OP here. Normally I'd agree with you, but Rush themselves touted this tour as being an "obscure, deep cut" concert to address some of the holes in their setlists the last few tours. From my observation, the opposite is true. They are playing the same old, same old. Throw in another boring drum solo, and I'm glad the last Rush tour I went to was R30.

Maybe they changed their minds. Maybe the leaked list is wrong (have they confirmed it?).

I haven't seen them for a long time. I don't really care what they play - even Tom Sawyer which if I never heard again would be fine, but they will play it and they should. Yeah, I wouldn't mind hearing some "deep cuts" but I'll take whatever. This could be the last time and I'm glad I'm going on Tuesday night (350 miles one way) to see them.

If the Wild would get their heads out of there collective a&&es I could see a Stanley Cup playoff game on Monday and Rush Tuesday, but I fear I will only see Rush on this trip.

I can see Op's point if the set list/plan has changed. I would like to see something different/Deep from Rush. If I were in the majority, I would think Rush would respond positively to my wishes. I just don't know if I am the Quintessential Rush Fan or if I ever was. I have always loved Rush but not everything they ever played. It's a very strong 75% though.

They've pretty much announced that this will be their farewell tour, since Peart's tendinitis is at the point that touring is torture now. They may have anticipated deep cuts before, but I think if it's their swan song, the fans would want to hear the favorites one last time.

The list was leaked from advance copies of the tourbook, so it's accurate. I found it on rushisaband.com, where I was banished for heresy. I guess being a huge Rush fan' since 1981 isn't enough. I have to love Clockwork Angels and think it's the best album they ever made.

What I find funny is the same people on Rushisaband who were super excited about it being a "deep cut" tour are now doing mental acrobatics to justify the fact that it's virtually the same setlist they've been playing since 2001 or so, proving that many Rush fans never incorporated Peart's advice to be your own person.

I'm going to see them in KC on July 9th. It'd probably going to be the last time I see them unless they do an R50. With the right therapy for Niel, it could be possible.
Let's face it; they are going to do their hit songs. You can't expect them to play The Necromancer or Cindarella Man. Also, Geddy can't sing a lot of their early stuff. They can't play anything from Hemispheres.
I would love to hear them do Circumstances but that will never happen.

They did play Circumstances on the Snakes and Arrows tour (I think it was that one, I know it was during one of the tours after Vapor Trails).
