One amp, two purposes?

I'm sure it's been covered, but here we go...

I have a Crown xti2000 and want to use one side of it to run some old LDS pa subs, and use the other side for my 215 cab. I know it has all the dsp functionality, but just want to get some advise as to whether this is too much for the little fella.

The subs are low wattage (for small bars) and wired to 4 ohms. The cab is only around 500w @ 4ohms as well. I figure I can just run it in stereo. Right?

From what I can read on the discontinued xti2000, it is safe to 2 ohms when running stereo. The two sides (A and B) do not need to match when running stereo. Please make sure it is good down to 2 ohms, in case each sub is 4 ohms (= 2 ohm load when connected).

I just re-read what I typed. What I meant to say is that when running stereo, you do not need to match ohms on each side - run one side at 2 ohms and the other side at 8 ohms, or any combination. They are completely separate units and completely independent - until you bridge them. I have bridged a power amp once and only once although I know others who do it regularly.
 
You can do some spiffy things with the onboard DSP in the Crown XTi series. HPF, for instance, but you can also use the filters for other functions. You could high-pass the 215 cab fairly high, say 100 Hz, and in effect, raise the power handling capability of that cab, and you probably wouldn't miss the LF extension since the subs would be covering that portion of the spectrum. That's just an example; you could even use the filters to create a true bi-amped rig, but that's probably needlessly complicated. You can use the input connector panel of the amp to connect the mono signal in parallel to both channels -- loop the "output" of one channel into the input of the other. You can mono the two channels in the DSP, but you'd lose the ability to adjust the input level of the two channels independently, which is a capability you wouldn't want to give up.

You also need to be aware of potential phase (polarity) issues between the two kinds of cabs; if they sound less loud when combined than they do individually, they're out of polarity with each other.
