One Recording Credit Bassists

One of my favorite bass albums is Icehouse, by the band Icehouse (known as Flowers at the time it was released in Australia in 1980). Having worked my way through the album and really appreciating the bass work of Keith Welsh, I started looking for other stuff he did.

And there's nothing. Nothing. That seems to be the only recording he has done. Granted he moved into managing the band (and others), but this was it for his recording career!



While the whole album is full of solid playing by Mr. Welsh my highlights would be Can't Help Myself, Not My Kind, All The Way, and my favorite, Send Somebody.

And 30 years later he can still come out and nail it (playing Fatman and Can't Help Myself) live:

Your post reminded me that I recently was trying to find info about Mark Leonard, who played bass on Pat Martino's wonderful 1976 album Joyous Lake. But I could find no internet presence whatsoever, no further discography, nothing. It's like he played on that one album and then decided "Meh, being a bass player ain't all that, Imma become a stock broker instead!" and disappeared from the music scene. Weird.

Wow! Great execution of some really cool bass lines on that recording (I rabbit-holed into the whole album)! Crazy to believe someone with those chops just quit playing!

I would imagine there are musicians like that it any large place. They played with a band that managed to record an album, the album sold zip, and they decided a day job was a better idea that spending the next X years trying to be a success.
