Maybe it's supposed to be a lefty and they've strung it backwards.The way the MM pickups are flipped over so that the screw “ears” are opposite of how it’s done on a Stingray bother me more than any other aspect of that bass. The gap between the ears makes for a glorious thumb rest. This does exactly the opposite!

That was done deliberately, in order to let you know when the glue holding the nut has come loose. Clever design.I don't like that the strings don't run straight to the tuning pegs. It could have been possible despite this design.

This post made me feel terribly lame when I lament feeling a little friction in my plucking forearm that gives me this light discomfort....
