Only getting audio from the left side?

I ordered a Echo Audiofire4 about a week ago as my first step computer recording. I figured why not start off with something good :). I just got it earlier today and it works great and everything but I have one problem: I'm only getting audio from the left side! I thought that it may just be the interface itself and went ahead and recorded a test into Garageband but when I played it back, audio only came from the left speaker. Is there anyway to get sound from both sides even though the input signal is through a 1/4" mono cable? Also would there be anyway to make it so that an mp3 file with audio only coming from the left will have audio form both sides?

That depends entirely on your software. I've been using Echo stuff for years. You put mono in, you get mono out unless your DAW is telling it different.

I use Sonar, and pan the mono signal to the center. Voila! It comes out both sides.

Right-- that's something people who are new to recording don't always realize, that each channel of recording is inherently monophonic, and its placement in the stereo field of your headphones is dependent on either recording to two channels simultaneously, or panning the playback of the mono channel between the two channels of your stereo output (headphones).

Thanks! That fixed my playback problem. I was sure I had the pan set to center on GB but I guess not. How about monitoring? I have the headphones plugged straight into the Audiofire4, which is getting the line out signal from my combo amp. Should I plug the headphones into the laptop if I want to get sound form both sides during real-time playing?
