How bout one of the sadowskys you've got in your profile, or a valenti built to spec?

Find one used Yamaha BB605 for $300 or so. Replace the electronics with whatever - say a Bartolini 5.4 A/P preamp and a pair of Bartolini hum canceling jazz pickups for about $350. Now you have a nice little bass for under $700. Works for everything I need. Great feeling neck, looks nice, has a smaller body and is fairly light.

I thought the original question was to recommend a 5 string 34" scale!?!? Not to be smug, but aren't all the basses listed in your profile fours? ....I guess I missed the Warwick, but isn't that a 35"?
