Pardon the stupid post, ya’ll, but I feel pretty good about this. My eink tablet (onyx boox), loaded with iRealpro and other fun music apps, basically mounts directly on this velvety bib I got second hand on here by mere force of friction. It’s feels like a magical little self contained practice studio and I’m elated. Reticent to try it on a gig, but we’ll see how it holds up Thursday! Does anyone else do this?

What happens when you lean the bass against yourself to play?
It sticks! It’s really neat - that’s what I’m so dazzled about! Something about the material they use on these stock cases and the velvet on the bib makes it pretty stable without any added adhesive. What’s more is that when I really lean over and get up in thumb position, my ear gets close enough where the tiny little internal speaker actually sounds decent enough to make the piano voicings sound clear. It’s pretty slick, ya’ll.

Man, I’m having way too much fun with this “utility bib” nonsense. Now featuring a “built in” snark tuner as well as my series 1 FDeck HPF-pre… I’m really excited about my series 3 coming in the mail and having onboard volume control (game changer!). It’s a great spot to be able to toggle the polarity real quick if I need to switch between arco/pizz. I’ve been wanting to get the pickup jack off the tailpiece for ages - super pleased with myself for finding this little solution. The bass seems happier, too! Someone could/should market the utility bib idea, “it’s got legs!”
Next step, bow hook - good bye quiver. 3M hook sewn in with some velvet acquired from my daughter’s old magician’s hat…

after a little tightening and tweaking, minimum weight or pressure is on the top and the bow balances to the side at all times in playing position. Win!

We took the kids to see my parents and of course I brought my bass… my mom, the consummate expert seamstress, was all too happy to clean up my work and custom fit this thing to my bass. I told her what I needed, how it needed to be tight so the bow never hit anything but needed to have minimum pressure on the top, and boy howdy (!) she kicked some serious ass on it! The tablet’s magnetic cover now has a little slit so it doesn’t fall off at any angle but is also very easily removed. My mom rocks and this freakin “Utility Bib” is the coolest thing.

Some dental surgery has healed up enough to where I can start gently blowing some horns again, and I realized that the ‘Utility Bib’ freed up my bow quiver to be used as a flute quiver for quick instrument changes on the bandstand! I know it’s kind of dumb, but I was trained primarily as a sax/flute guy, so this is pretty groundbreaking for me.
