when I play an open string in a sequence of notes with legato bowing the open string does not sound not right, it sounds a bit harsh. If you play for example this passage on the g string:
BG, CG, DG, CG (in the 4th position with the G being an open string, using legato bowing).
I think this is because when you lift off your finger and then play the string the string is not pushed down anymore and therefore 'jumps' to the hairs of the bow.
I hope you understand this, it is hard to describe.
