You totally misunderstood my post. I said nothing positive or negative about Simmons, and I said nothing about budgetSo let me get this straight, because I've only been a member of a forum for 7 months, I have no right to extensively express my thoughts on my influences, or the gear that I buy on an extremely meager budget? It seems to me that the majority of members have an obsession about certain bassists that are THEIR influences or about THEIR gear. Maybe I don't belong on a forum where members only conform to a specific stereotype, and immediately shut them about because it doesn't fit THEIR preference. In theory all music has MUSICAL VALUE. I also greatly respect Jamerson, Burton, Entwistle, Flea, and many others, and greatly enjoy their music. But I guess maybe I should detach from such a place.
How do I delete my account????
As much as I love and adore the super-human technical abilities of Jaco, Stanley Clarke and Geddy, I still give Gene credit for providing his melodic bass lines for the songs that Kiss created. They worked and are memorable to me as I was growing up, as memorable to me as the bass lines from Chris Squire, Geddy, and John Paul Jones I was listening to back in the 70's.
As far as a businessman, he is a very smart guy and I applaud his determination. I think he has done a great job marketing the Kiss brand. Just my opinion.
you have every right to your opinion...that is one thing that this site encourages...others express their opinions as well...don't worry about what everyone else thinks...

This.I spent a lot of years growing up listenting to Gene's playing, and IMO, he's extreemly underated.
I find his playing to be both appropriate for the music, and tastefull at the same time.
Fantatstic business man, showman and marketing genius as well.
A master of self promotion.
Where was the "Total Sell Out/Terrible Bassist/Arrogant Jerk" option? lol

That's very christian of you.Where was the "Total Sell Out/Terrible Bassist/Arrogant Jerk" option? lol

I like to think of his as being Lower-Upper.
For the record, in the poll I chose so-so (because he's not great in the Jaco, Wooten, Berlin etc. realm), but I do think he's a great bass player in his genre. People who think otherwise are very close-minded or are too young and/or stubborn to have listened to early Kiss work (70's material).
You're totally right and that was an error on my part. I didn't mean his genre, what I meant to type was his setting (i.e. in Kiss). Somewhere between my brain and my fingers, the alcohol took over and things got all twisted. My bad.I would say he is good or perhaps decent in the least. For his genre though? Well I can think of others in KISS' genre that I prefer to them most definitely and think they're better than him for that era. Roger Glove, Joe Bouchard, and Dennis Dunaway are a few I consider to be much better. It all clocks to opinion, and to be honest, I don't think I'm being close minded. I've listen to a good portion of their early work, I just find the three above better,
