Just looking for opinions on my current band. We've put a VERY rough mix of one of our songs up with the guitarist singing. At present we're still looking for a proper singer. Am curious to see what your thoughts are on the content and any suggestions on things I could be doing better as a bass player.

I quite like the loose feeling in general, but its pretty hard to play bass I would imagine with that drummer. Although he is obviously talented, hes amazingly busy, and not always in time I feel. You could try practicing to a click, (through the p.a.) this pretty quickly points out any sloppy playing.

I like the bass playing. Want advice? Keep doin' what you're doin'. Sounds good!

Drummer's busy? So what? So was Keith Moon.

I will say this, though, get ready for the inevitable "Who" comparisons. Darn good band to be compared to!

Here's my opinion:

Intro is kind of a mess, and everything is playing in it's own time... I would re-work the first 20 sec if i were you.

The guitar could use a little more reverb, it's all a bit dry, doesn't quite have that 'big' sound it needs for this kind of rock.

I'd say your bass needs some more mid lows, too sharp. Jazz bass (I guess?) I would back off the bridge and bring the tone knob back a little too. The playing is good but some of the runs are a little too sloppy/out of time. I think it's all there, that you got what it takes to rock this, just needs to be practiced or maybe stripped down a little bit. Going by the influences you guys have, don't over complicate, impress with the hooks not the tech stuff. :bassist:

The vocalist sounds good, same thing though, dry, needs a little more reverb. I would keep working with him, has some good attitude in his lungs.

RE: Troyus - the bass isn't a Jazz but a Status Graphite John Entwistle Buzzard through a Bass Pod XT with a bit of chorus (though I doubt the chorus effect is audible to any degree).

I know what you mean about the intro being a bit messy. I guess we should have used a click, but I suppose hindsight is 20-20 vision.

Man that must have cost an arm and a leg. I don't know if you really want a click for your song. Like has been said, get the drummer some meds... he's play like an animal. ;)

I thought your bass playing was fine. You were playing mostly what the guitar was playing with a few runs here and there. I dont blame you, your drummer is nutz.

The drummer has talent but appears to play all over the place.

I wouldnt alter the song structure. I would instead work with the drummer to provide something more solid that the listener can latch on to and go from there.

Hmmm. He reminded me more of Robert's brother, ROGER Daltry. ;) (Hey, I know it was just a typo. I'm just bustin' your chops a little. We've all done something like that before.)
