Opinions on the Stagg BC300 Fretless.

I'm going to wait a few years for my next bass, having had my incredibly reliable Farida for almost a year now, i should learn a little more before moving on. It's been a good relationship, and she can still put out.

I was in town a few weeks ago when i laid my eyes on a sexy Fretless Stagg BC300, for a really good price of £150.

Possibly my next bass. So of course i'd like a few opinions on this.

Hey thaydnbass, I also managed to get my hands on one of these a few weeks ago, I thought it was brilliant! Even more so when I checked the price tag. For the money you're paying I think its a steal

I dont have a fretlless BC300, but i have the standard modle and it held up well for a good year or so though things started to wear down after that. I woul say is still a steal their not as bad as peole make out, their just no to durable.

I imagine they would use different strings though, with one being fretless? If you're right though, (which you probably are because you own one ) You could still pick up a good set of strings for around £15-35

I once owned a sweet fretless P-bass and sold it like the true jackass that I am. A couple of years ago I got the itch to own another fretless but I didn't want too much $$$ as it would be used only occasionally. So I came upon the Stagg, which has a very limited dealer community in the USA, so I ordered one. When it arrived I pulled it out of the box and started acoustically digging that long-absent BWAAAA that only a fretless glissando can give. Then I plugged it in...Man it sounded like ****. so noisy I can't believe it got through quality control. The sound was fairly lifeless and the PUPS where sloppy. But it looked really nice and was so light and comfortable to wear, so...I gutted the electronics ordered a P-J set of EMG Selects, all new wiring, pots, some shielding tape, and a set of Rotosound flats. It was much better...One of these days I'll throw a black Badass II on it to get more sustain. So if you want to take this path you'll have yourself a decent fretless for around $250 or so.
