Hey Manjonning,

I'm thinking, at least, a pretty good deal! Not sure what those two amps are worth - I'm guessing not a ton of dough - but a halfway decent carved bass will probably outlast the electrical gear by decades (or centuries). It looks like there was some trauma at the neck/body join, but hopefully it's solid now.

I have a nice Lewis #236 that I happily paid a few hundred for. The body is in great shape. Umm, it just needs a new neck and fingerboard... Some day I'll get to it!

Agreed. Nice deal.

It looks like it might have gotten a new neck altogether, with the old pegbox and scroll grafted on. If so, that's a major but standard repair procedure if something bad happens to the neck of a bass, and the workmanship looks good from this distance.

If it was it looks like it was done well .. the trauma looks more like a gouge in the wood more than a repair to me .. but I'm pretty new to these things!

I got it from a High School in Minneapolis who's funding didn't allow the purchase of an amplifier but yet the orchestra teacher allowed students to play electric as well as acoustics ..so he let me take my pick of 8 basses.. This one seemed to fit me better than the rest .. although it was not the "best looking" as far as the condition.. but sound and feel was far superior to the rest..

The rig was worth maybe 7 hondo .. So a playable 40 some yr old carved bass from Germany in trade wasn't too bad!

Now to trade my chinese bass for another amp ..

I was just guessing from the pegbox picture. That's where I would look for a glue joint. But an honest and well executed repair doesn't diminish a bass.
