That looks like the guitar version for that particular style.
The bass version is like this:

If you aren't wildly retuning the strings, then there is no worry about friction against the string tree. The majority of the movement of the string happens the first time you install the string.
After that, it's a microscopic movement as you check tuning; most of the issue with friction at that point is in the nut slot.
