Double Bass Opinions wanted!

Some possibilities are a used Dual Parametric DI. I've seen a couple of them for sale recently. Mike highly reccommends

Francis Deck's new HPF Pre Series III should also do the trick once they become available.

I've heard that a Rane AP13 is also useful, but I've never had any experience with one and it's a fairly large piece of gear.

The Headway EDB-1, I have one of those and it certainly works well, but you may not need all it's other features.

The Fdeck won't be so good for feedback unless it is really low.

The Fishman is the best choice. Where did you guys see some used? I'll pick up another.

The Empress pedal looks pretty nice.
As to my lack of sense of humor---I'm just way too busy making cabs and gigging. I run to the computer and make a lot of spelling errors. Be careful what you wish for!

After trying to perform without the old TC para eq and relying on the fdeck II by itself, I put the TC para eq back to second in line, always leaving the fdeck II on the lowest setting. More stuff than I'd like to use, but it works every time.....perfectly. The fdeck III would be an upgrade, but i still wouldn't have the ability to dial out specific unwanted low to mid freqs above 30hz, as well as the global treble control (3k I think). The old Fishman or the TC do their work quite well.

I thought my "hip" replacement joke was pretty funny. Right up there with "it's the mail, man." and "sir, the apple pie is gone" "Solid, I'll have two pieces then..."

I've got a strap around the belly of the bass and open cell foam stuffed in the F holes, all to enable me to get the bass loud enouogh to be heard without getting feedback.
And what got me to the point of being able to get rid of that and get a sound that could be heard out front? Some amp or preamp or equalizer or pedal or strings or bass?
Nope. What got me there was working on getting a big, open, projecting acoustic sound out of the instrument.

Which is why I asked what kind of music you're playing. If it's loud psychobilly or roots rock or playing giant stadiums/auditoriums like Mike, then the solution is going to have to be an equipment solution. (BUT you can bet that Mike has put a lot of time into getting a big, open projecting sound out of the instrument.)
If you're like me in that picture, struggling to get an amplified sound loud enough to be heard in a small room, playing a duo with an un miked grand piano, then I would say looking for an equipment solution is not the right way to go.
