Just got 2 sets of Optima 24K Golds (2409B and 2299) both in super long (due to the 35" scale of my basses).
A HUGE shoutout to TBer @Eddie LeBlanc for some great initial info on the strings and
Eduardo Del Signore for some additional guidance and suggestions!
The whole process started when I wanted to replace the gold and green wound La Bella Green Hornet strings which were on my Packer bass. I liked them but wanted to try something different. I also do not believe they are made anymore.
The Optima strings are definitely different!
They are pretty expensive so I was a bit hesitant.
Both Eddie and Eduardo assured me they last quite a bit longer than almost any strings out there so the price is worth it.
As you can see in the pics below, they look fantastic on both basses! They actually shine and glimmer more than the pictures show.
The 2409B (Unique) set (.045 .065 .085 .105 .130) are on the fretted Packer Bass and the 2299 (STD) (.045 .060 .080 .100 and an added .125 B) are on the Carlo dual humbucker fretless.
I need to play these more in order to give a real review (which I will do later) but first impressions are THICK, wooly, and a bit aggressive!
The E and B are very deep and boomy (in a nice way). I need to play around a bit but they seem to have a mild (very mild) distortion effect with my amp.
The hang on and sustain really really well. Harmonics ring for a very long time and sound great.
Both sets are a bit mid-rangy which I need to get used to. The feel is really nice.
The Packer's Bass has a humbucker that i can put into single or double pickup configuration....so that will make testing more fun!!!!
