Orange AD200B Orange Obc 115

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and to bassplaying in general. I've been playing for a few months now. About once a week i go and play with a few friends of mine but than i always play on a friends amp cause i only have a practice amp at home a ashdown perfect ten wich is only 30 watts so not quite enough to play allong with a drum and guitar. But now for my question i was thinking of buying an Orange AD200B and an Orange OBC115 Basscab all in Limited White so that i have my own amp. Does anyone have any comments if this would be a good setup to begin with or not? And whats the difference between 1x15 and 4x10 Cabs?

Wow....what a first amp!

That would indeed be impressive. The 4x10 will sound louder and is a little better for mid sized gigs...the 1x15 is great on its own, but cant push as much, in my experience. The 4x10 sounds brighter, and had more of an aggressive punch. The 1x15 does work excellent on its own, but is more of a deep, smooth, low end.

Best to get the 4x10, and then add the 1x15....full white Orange stack. Awesome.

I have that setup (in "traditional" orange) and it is killer! The only drawback is its' weight. If you will be hauling it around, I'd think long and hard about the cab. My AD200B sounds best (IMO of course) on top of my Epifani UL 115, which is louder and lighter than the Orange cab, but costs a couple hundred more. The OBC15 weighs about 70 lbs on its' own. It's a very old-school tone maker. There are 410 cabs out there that weigh less, are more efficient (louder) and clearer (like the Epi 410, as one example). The head is the best sounding one I've heard! If your back is ready, I WOULD get the cab, but I certainly enjoy having a more modern cab to pair it with; it brings out a completely different character of the head. Besides, with 2 15s that head shakes the foundation!

Agreed....all the Orange gear is pretty much as heavy or heavier than Ampeg. You need help to lift. Saying, my AD200b in a flightcase kills me...and thats just the head. But I couldnt leave it without a flightcase!

Thx for the replies guy's. I'm still not sure what i'm going to buy. It's the weight that made me change my mind in the first place cause my first idea was to buy an ampeg but the weight of the top of an ampeg is a hell lot more than an orange. So i'm sure about the top. But the cab i'm not sure about.

Try the Epifanis if you can. That head is a raging elephant with both the 210 and 115 and very satisfying with either one alone in smaller locations.

As stated earlier, the cab is an old school design (EV TL 606) but, in my experience, one of the nicest sounding cabs out there. Particularly with a tube head. It's a little heavy, but that's why they make casters and carts, right?

That's a really nice rig for an starting player!

I would recommend to get something lighter and a little more practical. Since you're starting you first want to get through equalizing not so good amps and stuff like that.

I think it should be a process before jumping into something like an AD200

Ampeg haves some combo amps with a 1x15 configuration. Really cool amps, with awesome sounding.

Agreed...and sometimes the weight has to be ignored. Unless you really do live up on the top floor or something.

The 1x15 isnt that bad a lift at all...the 4x10 is very heavy though. Saying that, they are built very strongly, and look the business.

My OBC115 came in today. Now I have 2 of the SP212's and one 115. I power the 12's with the Terror Bass, then D.I. out to a Crown amp to power the 115. This is what Bass Guitar is supposed to sound like. Very addictive. Next step is to add an AD200B and an 8x10 cab for the bigger stages. The 15 is heavy, but it's soooo worth it.
