ORANGE BASS TERROR 500 WATT PROBLEM

Hi TalkBass,

I recently purchased a (supposedly) refurbished Orange Bass Terror from this ****er off eBay: crazydavesmusic

The thing has a problem where the fan and the active/passive light comes on but, the pre-amps don't warm up, the orange jewel light isn't coming on, and no sound is coming out of my cab (1200 Watt Behringer).

I have been through so much **** trying to get my rig together (sob story idgaf) and now that I have all the pieces necessary for this thing to work it doesn't. Of course. I saved up for months to buy the amp and nobody in the area I live in is modern enough to sell Speak-On cables so I had to order them after I bought my cab.

I'm pissed. And I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has had major issues about getting their rig together but, this sucks.

How much would it cost to fix the internals of the pre-amps? Because I assume that's the problem here.

What do you mean by the pre amps don't warm up?

Is the orange jewel light the power indicator and the standby indicator? Did you check the fuse?

Do you have the amp set to "on"

How is it connected to your cab? You mention something about speakons...but I'm unclear whether you have them or not.

Does the cab work with another amp?

I had this problem with my TB500--twice. Orange was great about sending a replacement, still . . . Eventually I sold it and went for a GK.

The pre-amps have no indication of coming on AT ALL. They don't warm up or anything.

I have no clue if it is. The active/passive light and the fan still come on so it's a mystery. And I have no clue how to check the fuse in the thing (n00b sorry) without fear of damaging the thing even more.

I have Speak-On cables and it's connected how it's supposed to be to the cab at 4 ohms.

And we have no other cab around with Speak-On's so I'm SOL.

I also forgot to mention me and my friends switched tubes for like 5 minutes and we had the same result.

send it back to the seller and request your money back, or a new one!

I bet it would be less hassle and less wait for me to just have it fixed at my local mediocre music store.

They will be able to repair it I'm sure but, I was just looking to see if people knew the exact problem with it just from the description of my problem.

Read the manual. The light in the power/standby indicator. The fuse is at the back of the amp under the AC plug. It just pops out. I'm guessing if you've got fans it's getting power, so that's probably not the issue.

Nope. Only Speak-On cable inputs and my friends rigs are simple 1/4 inch.

A new amp shouldn't need to be repaired. Ask for an exchange where you bought it...

Apparently according to the description of the Orange I bought from this online music store, it was refurbished form the manufacturer (Orange) and is in working condition. I think it would be less hassle if I had someone fix it at a music shop though.

It should still have some sort of manufacturers warranty. It would most likely need to be brought an authorized repair center.

Yes, it might be less hassle now, but if you have further problems with it down the road it's entirely possible that Orange will not honor the warranty (if one exists) if work was done at an unauthorized facility. Which would make it a serious hassle later...

In either case I would contact the online store you bought it from and see about getting a replacement or refund. If it was advertised in working condition, then it should be working. Otherwise, Crazy Dave just screwed you over. One of the reviews I just read of them wasn't the best...

Orange Bass amps don't come with manuals.

Some (or all) Orange Bass Terror's may also be sensitive to power outlets that are dipping below 110 volts (& possibly 240 volts) , I'm on 240 volts and I once had a problem with a working power outlet in my house - the amp wouldn't turn on..

Orange seem to replace parts on this amp rather than fix them. I'm not sure if it would be less hassle to have a local store fix it.

I read so many horror stories about TB dying that I totally dropped the idea of buying it. Research man, do research.. Btw, you can get a jack/speakon cable to test other amps with your cab. That's what I used for a long time before getting a gk speakon cable.

If your cabinet has a 1/4" jack as well as a Speakon it can simply be tested with a 9V battery placed from tip to sleeve. The Cabinet should give a hearty clunk.

If ir doesn't you need to get a 1/4" to speakon cable and do the test or remove a speakon from one end of the cable and place the battery across the bare wires.
