Orange Crush 35b

Hi guys

Posted a question about this amp earlier on another thread so sorry for spamming but I've seen one on eBay and want some quick responses before it goes.

I've just bought a Vintage Stingray copy today - my first bass after not playing for thirty years! There is a good almost new Orange Crush 35B going on eBay for £100 and I'm looking for opinions on whether this would be a good bedroom level practise amp or whether there better alternatives out there for similar money?

I don't need lots of effects or distortion - just an nice clean tone at neighbour friendly volumes. :help:

I hate my 35b. Its waaaay too warm, never sounds clean, and has no capacity for lows, its very mid bass. It would probably be ok with a small band in a practice setting, but just playing by itself I think it sounds terrible.

I haven't tried any other small combos though, so I can't make a recommendation. Orange makes a lot of nice stuff, but the 35b needs to be taken back to the drawing board.

I've just been scratching around on the internet looking at what's out there and I've seen some other affordable options. Anybody have any thoughts on the following as clean low-volume practise amps:

Laney RB2
Fender Rumble 15
Hiwatt B15-18
Kustom KBA16

Would any of these be better than the Orange RB35?

I agree this will be moved to amps soon. I can't really give advice on which brand to buy, as there are just too many out there. My only advice would be to not under-watt. Even in a bedroom situation, just for tonal quality, I would look at something closer to 100 watts. A 40 watt guitar amp is plenty for a guitar. I have never been satisfied with low watt bass amps. I can almost guarantee you will be looking for more power in a short time, and will have wasted your time and money on a low watter. JMHO

I have one and love it for practicing
as far as playing with others I think you may have to move up to more wattage
but I play my Crush with the headphones and the speaker and its plenty loud for personal use. The Eq section is quite usable. I have everything flat and I use the EQ on my multi effects..
